"A complex smart sensor system for power line monitoring"
This talk shows an overhead power line monitoring system for high voltage power lines. It detects the conductor temperature, the inclination angle of the conductor and the actual current and transfers the data by a radio link to a base station in the license free 2.4 GHz band. The sensor nodes are powered by the electrostatic fringing field. Application fields are the optimization of the power load (ampacity) in case of high load situations and ice detection for safe operation of the grid.
