Silicon Europe Worldwide project status after the first six months

  • Silicon Europe Worldwide already established several contacts to Taiwan and the USA

At the beginning of 2016, six of the 12 Silicon Europe partners started the project Silicon Europe Worldwide. The project aims at exploring business opportunities for the European semiconductor industry beyond European borders. Taiwan and the U.S. have already been selected as target countries in this regard; the first event took place in the framework of the European Innovation Week in Taiwan. In the follwing further .. with regard to the selected regions shall be presented.

Next to the European Innovation Week which took place at the end of May 2016, the project team achieved further success during the first six months of the project in Taiwan. Contacts to 16 different Taiwanese business support organisations are established at present. These include i.e. TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) and SEMI Taiwan (Association of the Semiconductor Industry). In total, 37 European SMEs attended the organised events including the European Innovation Week. Ten of these have already established collaborations with Taiwan thanks to efforts made within the project.

Next steps include the endorsement of established contacts with the U.S. In that respect, a fact-finding mission in Albany, Syracuse and Rochester will take place in November 2016 in order to intensify these contacts. The ultimate project goal is to organise a matchmaking event with semiconductor related companies and research centers in one of these locations in 2017.
