Silicon Saxony will be showcasing its semiconductor competences at productronica in Munich in 2017

DRESDEN, Germany ─ 25 October 2016.
SEMI Europe has announced that the next five editions of the SEMICON Europa tradeshow will be held in co-location with productronica and electronica in Munich. The combination of the leading industry events SEMICON Europa, productronica and electronica (alternating) creates a new European industry hub for electronics development and production, electronic components, systems and applications and semiconductor manufacturing under one roof, covering the entire electronics manufacturing value chain. The event also creates new opportunities for the industry and association members to connect with a broader range of customers.

This is the result of a process that has been initiated by Europe’s strongest microelectronic clusters Grenoble (France) and Dresden (Germany) two years ago. This includes the development of new segments such as the start-up Hub ‘Innovation Village’ and the European industry associations platform ‘Allée des Clusters’. These formats will also be part of the upcoming SEMICON Europa. The assets of Grenoble and Dresden will remain a vital part SEMICON Europa next year.

In 2015, 1,200 exhibitors and more than 38,000 attendees from 40 countries were interested in the productronica’s five topic clusters which are complementary to SEMICON Europa’s segments such as semiconductor manufacturing and technologies, imaging as well as e.g. automotive. In addition, productronica addresses current industry trends like industry 4.0, manufacturing technologies for batteries and electronic energy storages, organic and printed electronics as well as additive manufacturing (3D printing) in the topic cluster “Future Markets”. “Topics such as Industry 4.0, batteries and energy storage, organic and printed electronics as well as additive manufacturing are of high interest to our members and the expanded Saxon innovation ecosystem”, says Heinz Martin Esser, chair of Silicon Saxony e.V. “By showcasing our competencies at SEMICON Europa co-located with productronica in 2017, we strengthen Saxony’s global visibility as an integrated hightech
site with development and production capabilities in all six key enabling technologies. In addition, we build bridges to new applications for our members, providing easier access to companies in other regional clusters.”

The established international network ‘Silicon Europe’ is already a strong base to develop joint activities strengthening the European semiconductor industry. Furthermore, Silicon Saxony e.V. will continue to actively contribute contents to the SEMICON Europa and is planning a new conference program at the microelectronics site in Dresden. Silicon Saxony is focused on the industry’s future development: The industry network will be introducing new innovation platforms for the individual application fields such as automotive and its basic technologies, for e.g. IoT markets such as 3D packaging and hybrid electronics. In addition to the large industry events productronica and electronica, attendees and industry specialists will meet at one of European’s leading semiconductor technology centers to discuss specific industry topics in depth.

“We appreciate that Silicon Saxony and SEMI are increasingly focusing on the topic of value creation in Germany and Europe in addition to the traditional industry events. Saxony is the right place for this, because our cluster’s competencies are outstanding when it comes to energy-efficient microelectronics. That is what future IoT markets demand and this is where we can make strong contributions to creating value that will advance in the IoT markets automotive, industry 4.0, security and logistics”, Jens Drews, speaker of GLOBALFOUNDRIES explains. The company is currently introducing a new energy saving technology (22FDX) for the upcoming IoT markets in its Dresden Fab.

SEMICON Europa and productronica will take place in 2017 from 14 to 17 November in Munich.
