Science meets Industry: Research institutes and high-tech companies get in touch with each other in Freiberg

  • Science meets Industry: Research institutes and high-tech companies get in touch with each other in Freiberg
The "Science meets Industry" format was already a complete success last year. More than 100 researchers and industry representatives exchanged knowledge and technologies in Chemnitz.

On March 4 the already third transfer event of Silicon Saxony e. V. under the title "Science meets Industry" will take place in Freiberg. Saxony's most important high-tech network will then again invite representatives from research, science, industry and business to share, discuss or jointly develop knowledge and technologies in the rooms of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The overriding aim of the event is the rapid transfer of innovative ideas from research to industry and thus to the market. The pitch and demo session, which will also take place this year, is particularly geared towards this goal. Various research institutions from all over Saxony will present their current projects in this context. An exhibition, four guided tours through the institutes of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, three workshops and last but not least a Siemens keynote on the topic of artificial intelligence also offer ample space and opportunities for targeted exchange, knowledge and technology transfer.

"This year, we have again put together a varied program for all participants of Science meets Industry. After the kick-off in Dresden in 2018 and last year's event in Chemnitz, we will be guests in Freiberg and here at the TU Bergakademie in 2020. Together with our partners and members from research and industry we have compiled the most exciting technology topics and developments of the location. We are looking forward to another varied transfer event, which will hopefully transfer numerous innovations from the Saxon research institutes to industry, market maturity and finally to the market", explains Frank Bösenberg, Managing Director and Board Member of Silicon Saxony e. V.

A total of five sessions are planned for March 4 in Freiberg and will become the name-giving core of the event. Whether "Sensor Materials & Technologies", "Robotics & Transport", "(Energy-efficient) Electronics & Sensor Systems", "Artificial Intelligence" or "Out of the Box: Ingenious Ideas from Hardware, Software & Connectivity" - in each of the five sessions, renowned research institutes and their outstanding researchers will present exciting innovations. With Fraunhofer IIS/EAS, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Fraunhofer ENAS and Fraunhofer FEP, Saxony's top research institutes are represented with pitches and demos. In addition, research-affine companies such as FusionSystems GmbH, hpulcas GmbH, Beak Consultants GmbH, Axel Fischer und Felix Kaschura GbR or RMF Tech GmbH will present their developments.

Last but not least, workshops on the topics "New semiconductor materials: from 5G to quantum computers", "Smart materials for chemical sensors" and "Smart Agriculture" offer a platform for topic-related cooperation. The keynote speeches by Dr. Erik Berger (Siemens AG) on "Real World Data Science - Optimized decision making which will never retire" and by Prof. Sebastian Stober (Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg) on "CogXAI - Training and understanding AI with methods from cognitive neuroscience" are further highlights of the day, as are the guided tours of the Institute for Electronic and Sensor Materials, the Crystal Growth Laboratory, the CAVE of the Institute for Computer Science and the Clean Room Laboratory of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
